Category

Stephen and his mistress Grena arrive at his flat rather drunk. Stephen’s ex-wife, Jan, telephones to say she would like to meet him. Stephen tries to get Grena to go but she creates a scene and stabs herself. He thinks she is dead and that he will be blamed – he hides her body in an ottoman. Matthew the landlord arrives and is suspicious – he has delayed Stephen and he misses Jan. When he gets back to his flat he finds Jan there – they are reconciled but Matthew arrives. He says that a friend of his would like to buy an ottoman and would Stephen sell his. Stephen agrees. Next morning when he is transferring the body Matthew arrives and proceeds to blackmail Stephen. Stephen is driven to suicide and prepares poison – but Matthew drinks it by mistake and dies. It is then that Stephen discovers that Grena is not dead after all – but he still has a dead body on his hands.
